Occupational Therapist Job Description

Hope is a leading provider of clinical, educational, and therapeutic services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our mission is to empower children and their families to reach their full potential by offering innovative applied behavioral analysis therapies and access to recreation, vocational training, and individualized education programming.

The Occupational Therapist is a key member of our interdisciplinary team, responsible for developing and implementing occupational therapy treatments and supervising treatments provided by assistants and volunteers in individual or group therapy programs. This role requires close collaboration with occupational therapy assistants, interns, direct support professionals, educational specialists, and others to provide exceptional care to clients.

Essential Duties:
  • Develop and implement treatment plans and therapeutic devices for assigned clients, providing guidance and instruction in individual and group settings.
  • Assess clients' performance in activities of daily living, sensory motor development, and motor coordination activities, and develop occupational therapy plans with short- and long-range goals.
  • Maintain accurate records and written progress reports, including the type of therapy/treatment administered and evaluations of results, and communicate with other staff regarding client treatment and progress.
  • Recommend, design, fabricate, and maintain equipment and therapeutic devices to meet the needs of clients requiring occupational therapy, and attend staff meetings to discuss adaptive equipment, wheelchair modifications, and splinting and positioning techniques.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized university.
  • Registered Occupational Therapist licensed by the state of Illinois.
  • Ability to train direct-care staff in the principles, practices, and procedures associated with OT services for clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years of strong clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist providing services to children with developmental disabilities.
  • Managerial skills in directing subordinates.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers and software applications.
