At Carter Machinery Company, we are the authorized dealer for Caterpillar across multiple states, and we are looking for skilled Field Service Technicians to support our Heavy Equipment operations. Our technicians are responsible for servicing a wide range of Caterpillar products, including machinery used in earthmoving, mining, and forestry. You will have the opportunity to work directly at customer job sites, diagnosing issues and performing repairs in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and powertrain systems, tailored to your expertise.
We offer flexible shift options, including first, second, and weekend shifts, with some positions available for 3-day and 4-day workweeks. Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience in heavy equipment repair. Experience with Caterpillar equipment, military diesel training, or completion of a diesel school or mechanical vocational program in related fields such as automotive, electrical, or HVAC will be advantageous. A high school diploma or GED is required. To qualify for the $5,000 sign-on bonus, candidates must have a minimum of three years of relevant heavy equipment field experience. Those with less than three years of experience may still qualify for a $2,000 sign-on bonus, distributed in two equal payments at 90 and 180 days of employment.
Key qualifications for our Field Service Technician roles include:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong mechanical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Proficiency in computer usage, including Microsoft Office, and capability to learn service software for reporting and work order documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Capability to read and interpret operating manuals.
- A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one, along with a clean driving record and DOT certification.
- Willingness to work overtime as required by job demands.
Physical requirements for the Field Service Technician position include the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 70 pounds, as well as performing tasks that involve reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing around various heavy equipment.
