As an Interventional Radiology Technologist, you will work under the guidance of the Interventional Radiology Manager and/or Assistant Chief Technologist. Your role will involve executing a diverse range of technical and professional responsibilities while utilizing advanced imaging technology to generate high-quality interventional radiology images for evaluation by radiologists. Your contributions will be pivotal in ensuring excellence in service delivery as outlined in our organizational success factors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 1. Technical Operations: Execute a variety of technical tasks to guarantee optimal performance of imaging procedures using angiography and other imaging modalities.
    • 1.1 Prepare angiographic equipment for functionality prior to examinations, ensuring the correct accession number is selected from the modality work list.
  • 2. Image Production: Generate high-quality images during and post-procedures to accurately capture anatomical details for diagnostic purposes.
    • 2.1 Confirm physician orders on requisitions consistently before proceeding with imaging.
  • 3. Supply Management: Ensure all necessary supplies for individual procedures are readily available to enhance patient safety and operational efficiency.
    • 3.1 Provide physicians with all required disposable and other equipment for procedures.
  • 4. Record Keeping: Perform clerical and documentation tasks using HIS, RIS, PACS, and QA modules to maintain the integrity and completeness of patient records and billing.
    • 4.1 Ensure timely scheduling, initiation, and completion of all cases in the RIS.
  • 5. Professional Conduct: Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor with all departmental staff to facilitate smooth operations.
    • 5.1 Actively engage in team efforts to enhance patient throughput, including room preparation, restocking supplies, and assisting colleagues as needed.
  • 6. Patient Care: Deliver compassionate and quality patient care, adhering to age-specific standards to promote patient cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.
    • 6.1 Welcome patients and introduce yourself and the team to them.
  • 7. Safety Protocols: Implement appropriate safety measures during procedures to minimize physical risks for patients, yourself, and staff.
    • 7.1 Utilize lead aprons during fluoroscopy procedures.
  • 8. Educational Engagement: Participate in various educational opportunities to enhance personal knowledge and assist in the development of others.
    • 8.1 Be open to mentoring new technologists, residents, and student technologists.

Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an A.M.A. accredited Radiologic Technology program is required; an Associate's degree is mandatory, while a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in a hospital radiology department is required, with one to two years preferred. Experience in operating rooms, biopsies, or other invasive procedures is desirable. New graduates from accredited Special Procedures programs will be considered. Cardiovascular interventional experience is preferred.
Licensure: RT(R) certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required, with Vascular Interventional (VI) credentials preferred. A Connecticut State License and CPR Certification are also necessary.
Special Skills: Proficiency in routine interventional radiology imaging techniques, above-average knowledge of computer/PACS applications, and strong organizational and communication skills are essential. A comprehensive understanding of anatomy and physiology is crucial.
Physical Demands: The role requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds to assist with patient transfers and the capacity to stand and wear a lead apron for extended periods.
