Job Summary

As a key member of the Saint Joseph Health System team, the Athletic Trainer will be responsible for optimizing the health, safety, and well-being of student athletes participating in school system sanctioned athletics. This includes recording the status of athletes to respective coaches and physicians, as well as coordinating training room activities during treatment periods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Comply with regulatory agency standards and regulations, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for student athletes.
  • Administer treatments to injured or ill athletes in consultation with the team physician, providing expert care and guidance.
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation programs to help injured athletes return to athletic competition, working closely with coaches and physicians to ensure a successful recovery.
  • Recognize and manage minor injuries or illnesses during athletic practices and competition, providing first-aid treatments as needed.
  • Apply protective and injury preventative devices, such as tape, bandaging, and bracing, to prevent injuries and promote athlete safety.
  • Coordinate athletic training and supplies for teams traveling without direct athletic training support, ensuring a seamless experience for student athletes.
  • Provide contest coverage for home events in all sports, including IHSAA events, as assigned.
  • Participate in team pre-participation physical examination sessions, working closely with coaches and physicians to ensure athlete health and safety.
  • Maintain accurate records related to injury/illness occurrences and the rehabilitative course of injured athletes, providing valuable insights for coaches and physicians.
  • Engage with patient using interpersonal dynamics to facilitate and effect therapeutic changes, promoting a positive and supportive environment for student athletes.
  • Implement and participate in injury and illness prevention procedures and education for student athletes, promoting a culture of safety and well-being.
  • Supervise and train student athletic trainers, providing guidance and support to ensure their success in the role.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree with an emphasis in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training.

Licensure: Must be certified in the State of Indiana as an Athletic Trainer.

Experience: Previous experience in a sport rotation preferred, but new graduates from accredited colleges will be considered.
