Position Overview

As a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the operational efficiency of utility-scale energy solutions. Your expertise will guide junior engineers, ensuring the safe and effective management of our facilities while fostering collaboration across various engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the electrical design initiatives for advanced battery energy storage systems, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of BESS architecture, including rack, module, container, and plant-level controls.
  • Develop and implement site acceptance tests (SAT) and integration test plans for BESS systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct thorough technical reviews of vendor documentation to uphold quality and reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on technical challenges related to BESS operations and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on technical matters, representing the Operations function during project design phases, including drawing and study reviews.
  • Perform intricate engineering calculations specific to electrical design, such as equipment sizing, load flow analysis, short circuit assessments, arc flash studies, and grounding evaluations.
  • Engage with various system operators to address technical issues related to operational planning and modeling.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of commissioning, maintenance, and standard operating procedures.
  • Review maintenance records and recommend corrective actions to enhance reliability and ensure adherence to applicable standards.
  • Facilitate structured feedback sessions to analyze lessons learned, focusing on misoperations, root cause analysis, and safety-related incidents.
Qualifications

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, complemented by relevant utility experience.
  • A minimum of seven years of hands-on engineering experience in energy storage systems.
  • Familiarity with SCADA networks and protocols, including MODBUS and DNP3.
  • A solid understanding of battery chemistries and their implications for BESS design.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
Additional Information

This position supports a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of three days in the office. Travel may be necessary, up to 20% of the time. A valid U.S. driver's license and a clean driving record are essential for site visits.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $112,000 - $172,500 USD annually, based on qualifications and experience. In addition to competitive base pay, this role is eligible for a bonus/incentive plan.
