Custodian, Head II Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Custodian, Head II to join our team at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising custodial operations in schools and departments, as well as performing a variety of technical tasks related to the care, maintenance, and cleaning of buildings and facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff involved in custodial operations.
  • Prepare and maintain staff timekeeping records for proper payroll reporting.
  • Evaluate operations and activities of custodial responsibilities, recommend improvements and modifications, and prepare various reports on custodial operations and activities.
  • Train new staff on the use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and related supplies and materials.
  • Receive and verify orders.
  • Perform routine repairs on equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, facilities, and fixtures, including sinks, urinals, and toilets, as well as clean and sanitize showers as assigned, and replenish supplies in restrooms.
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, wax, strip, and polish floors, as well as vacuum and shampoo carpets.
  • Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment, clean desks and counter tops, wash windows, mirrors, and walls, clean air vents as required, replace lights, and adjust shades and blinds.
  • Empty, clean, and sanitize waste receptacles, pick up papers and other debris, and move and arrange furniture and equipment and set up rooms for conferences and meetings.
  • Identify and report building maintenance needs in assigned buildings and facilities.

Requirements:

  • MINIMUM: Completion of formal or informal education at a level that provides the ability to read and write at a level required by the job.
  • DESIRABLE: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • MINIMUM: 3 years of custodial experience.
  • DESIRABLE: 3 years of custodial experience including supervisory responsibilities.

Additional Information: This is a 12-month position with a salary range of $15.60 and above. The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, afternoons, and evenings, as well as weekends and holidays as needed.
