Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team.
Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 11:30 PM - 8:00 AM
Position Summary:
The Senior Medical Laboratory Specialist will oversee complex chemical and biological testing essential for the detection, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of diseases. This role involves collaborating with the laboratory team to deliver high-quality testing services to our clients. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Supervisor/Manager/Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Adhering to established laboratory protocols for the proper handling and processing of specimens. Conducting laboratory procedures of moderate and high complexity in line with departmental standards.
- Maintaining current knowledge of all technical procedures and laboratory instrumentation. Reviewing relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and effectively operating both simple and complex laboratory equipment, including performing maintenance and troubleshooting equipment issues.
- Reporting unusual situations to the Supervisor promptly.
- Assisting in the onboarding and training of new staff members. Engaging in the training of technical personnel and monitoring their development alongside the supervisor. Serving as a resource for colleagues and other staff.
- Executing quality control procedures as established for each testing method and maintaining precise records. Analyzing quality control data, identifying trends or issues, and taking appropriate corrective actions.
- Operating laboratory instruments and performing routine maintenance. Diagnosing and documenting any instrument or reagent issues, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, and keeping accurate records of actions taken.
- Reviewing Pending Logs and addressing any missing specimen issues. If unresolved, ensuring the issue is communicated to the next shift for further action, and notifying the supervisor if necessary.
- Participating in the evaluation and development of new procedures, methodologies, and instruments.
- Adjusting work schedules as needed to meet the operational demands of the organization.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemistry, biology, or a related life science, meeting CLIA personnel standards.
- A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
- State Licensure, where applicable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at the college level.
Preferred:
- ASCP or other national certification.
