Position Overview:

The Senior Operations Leader at Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company is accountable for the financial performance of the business unit while guiding a diverse team of professionals to achieve or surpass business objectives. The functions under the purview of the Operations Leader encompass production (mechanical assembly, team leadership, production oversight), production supervision, manufacturing engineering, quality assurance, and planning oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct production teams across multiple complex business units to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity, addressing root causes and implementing countermeasures as necessary.
  • Engage in and/or lead initiatives utilizing Fortive Business Systems (FBS) to promote continuous process enhancements in Safety, Quality, On-Time Delivery, cost reduction, inventory management, and adherence to estimates.
  • Analyze backlog, strategize production (materials, machinery, workforce), and assess overall capacity to identify necessary countermeasures to fulfill customer demands.
  • Oversee cross-training efforts to cultivate a versatile team capable of enhancing labor efficiency and productivity.
  • Continuously assess resource utilization (machinery, assembly equipment, and workforce) and provide recommendations to align capabilities with business requirements.
  • Ensure all machinery, tools, and equipment are maintained effectively to produce high-quality products with minimal downtime.
  • Manage profit and loss, implementing cost control measures as required.
  • Collaborate with various functions including EHS, HR, Engineering, New Product Development, Business Development, Supply Chain, and Program Management.
  • Accountable for accurate shipment forecasts and achieving those forecasts.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Develop a comprehensive 5-year strategic plan to drive growth.
  • Participate in talent reviews and succession planning.
  • Oversee revenue, costs, productivity, quality, program performance, inventory management, customer satisfaction, and bid support for the business unit.
  • Lead the business unit's processes from purchase to shipment, including bid planning, demand planning, production planning, and inspection.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting engagement, inclusivity, and diversity to build a high-performance culture.
  • Ensure effective Daily Management and Standard Work practices.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop performance and growth objectives for direct reports.
  • In collaboration with cross-functional teams, enhance capacity, efficiency, and profitability through facility and equipment improvements.
  • Champion company initiatives focused on safety, quality, and employee engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of production processes within a lean manufacturing framework.
  • Proficient in Fortive Business Systems (FBS) or similar continuous improvement methodologies, with proven results in Lean and/or Six Sigma.
  • Strong familiarity with ERP systems and reporting tools.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience in Ordnance is advantageous.
  • Adept at prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • General understanding of assembly and machining principles.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, or Engineering.
  • Over 12 years of experience in manufacturing/operations with prior management responsibilities.
  • Preferred backgrounds include Aerospace and Defense, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Continuous Improvement Leadership.
