Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team in the Operating Room. As a key member of our perioperative care team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Pre-Operative Preparation: Discuss special needs with the surgeon before surgery and prepare the operative site by aseptically cleaning and patient clipping, as needed.
- Instrumentation and Equipment Management: Prepare and maintain the instrument table(s) in an organized and comprehensive manner to avoid damage to instrumentation as well as incorrect needs or instrument counts.
- Surgical Support: Assist the surgical team with draping and positioning the patient, pass sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assistants during procedures, and hold retractor devices.
- Specimen Handling: Receive surgical specimens following specimen protocol and pass the specimen(s) off the sterile field to the circulating nurse, verifying the source of the specimen.
- Post-Operative Care: Assist with placement of surgical dressings to the operative site following surgical case completion and disassemble surgical instrumentation as indicated at the end of the procedure.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program.
- Experience: Less than 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
