Job Summary

As a Clinical Dietitian at Geisinger Health System, you will provide safe, competent, and evidence-based nutritional therapy to meet the standards of practice and scope of practice as stated by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. You will work collaboratively with the healthcare team and other nutrition professionals to manage individual nutrition care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess individual needs through synthesis of information obtained through assessment interviews, food and nutrition histories, medical records, and discussions with the healthcare team.
  • Develop personalized plans to meet assessed needs, including recommendations for diet composition, meal patterns, supplements, and parenteral and enteral feedings.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop goals related to patient and resident care.
  • Plan and coordinate the use of special dietary regimens.
  • Document initial assessments, plans, and progress in the medical record in accordance with established standards.
  • Evaluate nutritional status and make recommendations for optimal care.
  • Counsel individuals, families, and caregivers on normal nutrition and therapeutic diets, considering educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Plan and conduct group classes on various nutrition topics as needed.
  • Participate in or conduct research to demonstrate food and nutrition-related outcomes and develop policy recommendations for individuals, groups, and special populations.
  • Consult, educate, and advocate on behalf of individuals, groups, and special populations regarding food, culinary, nutrition, and health issues.
  • Participate in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of education programs for dietetic interns, students, and personnel.
  • Perform human resource functions, including orientation, training, scheduling, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of referral processes and systems to facilitate public access to registered dietitians.
  • Participate in outcome-based quality assurance and performance improvement activities to document outcomes, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Pennsylvania Department of Aging, and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
  • Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist within 4 months.
  • Basic Life Support Instructor within 1 year.
