Job Summary

Bureau of Reclamation is seeking a skilled Plant Mechanic to join our team. As a Plant Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and modifying mechanical equipment found in hydroelectric power plants and/or pumping plants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, or modify all mechanical equipment found in hydroelectric power plants and/or pumping plants.
  • Perform mechanical work, machinist work, sheet metal work, finish welding, pipe fitting, crane operation, and rigging connected with the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of turbines, generators, motors, pumps, compressors, filters, educators, valves, pipes, pen stocks, intakes, radial gates, spillways, and outlet works.
  • Design and manufacture tools, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Fabricate parts from stock material. Rebuild equipment to new.
  • Perform tool and die-maker work.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery such as lathes, milling machines, boring bar, radial arm drill press, forklift, overhead bridge and gantry cranes, grinders, MIG, TIG, acetylene, and arc welders, testing gauges, and machinist and common hand tools.
  • Follow safe work practices and hold clearances under the Hazardous Energy Control Program.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
  • You must submit a resume and supporting documentation.
  • You must submit eligibility documents for veterans' consideration.
  • You must meet any minimum education and/or experience requirements.
  • You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads.
  • You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • You may be required to work overtime.
  • You must be able to possess and maintain an Overhead and Gantry Crane Operator Certification.
