This is a contract job opportunity with potential for permanent employment. The position is for a Laboratory Technician Medical 8345 in Calabasas Hills CA. The schedule is 8am-6:30pm Sunday-Tuesday and Friday.

Projected duration is 6 months with potential extensions and permanent employment. The job code is CVDJP and is an entry-level position with training provided. The pay rate is $22 to $25 per hour, and benefits are available.

Required Education/Degree is a Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology or related fields of science from an accredited institution with a minimum 12 semester hours of chemistry preferably including at least one course of organic chemistry.

Essential Job Duties include:

  • Assisting in specimen testing under direct and constant supervision according to established procedures, working under the technical oversight of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and in compliance with CA regulatory restrictions.
  • Recording dates of receipt, in use, and expiration for all reagents, kits, controls, and standards used for assigned assays.
  • Pipetting using pre-set devices, calibrated and approved automatic devices or fixed volume dispensers.
  • Performing, under direct supervision, preventative maintenance (PM) on equipment, documenting PM appropriately, making minor repairs and immediately contacting appropriate personnel for problems requiring more complex repairs.
  • Developing an ever-increasing understanding of laboratory medicine and the clinical significance of laboratory results.
  • Adhering to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Esoterix, CLIA, CAP and other regulatory bodies.
  • Documenting all activities as necessary using good documentation practices (Examples include preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control) to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Following any other job-related instructions and performing any other job-related duties requested by department management.

The main function of a lab technician is to perform pre-analytical testing on patient samples under the direct and constant supervision of a medical technologist.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Setting up, maintaining and cleaning working areas.
  • Aliquoting patient samples using pre-calibrated pipetting devices.
  • Aliquoting reagents using automated liquid handling devices.
  • Reviewing and resolving pending and overdue testing.
  • Building batches of aliquoted patient samples for analysis.
  • Maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment used in processing including performing preventative maintenance in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Resetting and resolving errors caused by equipment failures.

Required Skills include verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Basic ability to work independently and manage on time. Basic knowledge of the information and techniques needed to locate and resolve problem specimens. Basic ability to analyze data and accurately document and record data.
