Respiratory Therapist Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Respiratory Therapist Assistant to join our team at Bon Secours Mercy Health. As a Respiratory Therapist Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our respiratory therapy team.
Key Responsibilities- Under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist, provide basic respiratory care to non-acute patients, including drawing arterial and/or capillary blood samples, processing samples, and reporting results.
- Assist with cleaning, assembling, and maintaining respiratory supplies and equipment, ensuring a clean and organized work environment.
- Administer oxygen delivery devices, set up and monitor non-invasive equipment, and provide basic respiratory therapy techniques, such as aerosol therapy, postural drainage, and incentive spirometry.
- Perform EKGs, understand electronic monitoring, lead placement, and basic arrhythmias, and assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of respiratory equipment.
- Order, maintain, and deliver oxygen to units, and ensure respiratory equipment is available for procedures and examinations.
- Arrange for the repair of broken equipment, fill orders for respiratory supplies and equipment, and receive and inspect deliveries for damage.
- Current Respiratory Care Limited Permit, as required by the state of employment.
- BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required).
- A current student in good standing with an AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program or a recent graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program.
This role may involve periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads, exposure to high noise levels and bright lights, and potential exposure to hazardous substances or body fluids. The individual in this position must exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment, and understand policies concerning infection control.
Physical RequirementsThis role requires manual dexterity, the ability to perform shift work, and the capacity to maneuver the weight of patients. The individual must also be able to hear alarms, telephone, and audio recordings, and reach above shoulder level.
Skills and Qualifications- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with patients, families, physicians, and other staff members.
- Good communication skills and the ability to effectively work with diverse people.
- Organization and prioritization skills, with the ability to keep accurate records and inventories of supplies.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to troubleshoot and use creative thinking.
