M1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer Job Description

The Army National Guard is seeking highly skilled individuals to maintain the M1 Abrams Tank, a critical component of the armored forces. As a Tank System Maintainer, you will be responsible for supervising and performing maintenance on these vehicles, ensuring they remain operational and effective.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in the tank's systems, including suspension, steering, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Perform organizational maintenance and on-board direct support tasks on the tank's systems, including gas particulate systems and fire extinguisher/suppression systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on vehicular mounted armament, gun turret drive system, and fire control system.
Required Skills:
  • Electronic and mechanical principles and concepts.
  • Use of electronic, electrical, and mechanical test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
