Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Surgical Technologist for a travel assignment at Wheeling Hospital. This role is essential in supporting surgical teams and ensuring the highest standards of patient care.

Certification Requirements
  • Preferred certifications include IAHCSMM or CBSPD for sterilization responsibilities.
Contract Details
  • This is a 13-week contract for a Surgical Technologist position.
Job Requirements
  • Current BLS Certification is mandatory.
  • Verification of Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) status is required.
Work Schedule
  • Shifts may vary, including 8, 10, or 16-hour shifts.
  • On-call requirement: 24 hours on either Saturday or Sunday, 1 to 2 days per month.
  • Weekend shifts may include up to 2 days per month.
  • Call response time must be within 20 minutes.
Unit Specifics
  • Operating Room (OR) includes 11 suites and 5 Endoscopy suites.
  • Average cases per day: 35-40 in Main OR and 20-30 in Endo.
  • Occasional scrubbing and retractor holding may be required for RNs.
  • Certification through NBSTSA may not be necessary for Technologists.
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system utilized: Picis OR Manager.
  • Clinical Lead Charge available until 5 PM; thereafter, charge responsibilities shift to on-duty nursing staff.
  • IV Team and Pharmacy support available 24/7.
Additional Information
  • The schedule for CSTs aligns with that of RNs.
  • Holiday on-call sign-up is managed through the vacation book.
  • Unit designation: OR (Cost Center 7010) and Endo (7012).
  • Common surgical cases include orthopedic total joint replacements, revisions, general colorectal, GYN, neuro, ENT, vascular, thoracic, podiatry, and robotic gastric sleeves.
  • Experience in acute OR settings is preferred for sterilization processing.
  • Familiarity with Sterrad systems is beneficial.
