About the Position

VHB's Vermont office is seeking a Survey Crew Chief - Geomatics to lead our team in delivering high-quality survey services. As a key member of our Geomatics team, you will be responsible for directing the activities of a survey crew in the performance of Boundary/ALTA surveys, Topographic surveys, Construction and post-construction surveys, and transportation surveys.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the activities of a survey crew in the performance of various survey tasks.
  • Maintain proper care of survey equipment.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements.
  • Maintain documentation of all phases of survey work.
  • Perform public records research.
  • Use public records in the execution of survey field work.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in reading, understanding, and evaluating the significance of survey, right-of-way, engineering, and architectural drawings with respect to each survey project.
  • Proficient in the operation of total station with electronic data collecting capability.
  • Proficient in the operation of GPS equipment.
  • Proficient in the operation of auto level equipment.
  • Proficient in field survey methods and techniques.
  • Ability to perform tasks independently and to assign and review work of others.
  • Proficient in the fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with strong capability to work independently.
  • Desire for continued growth in the Land Surveying profession.
Qualifications
  • 1+ years of progressive professional land surveying experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Land Surveying/Engineering or related field helpful, but not required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D desirable, but not required.
  • Experience with Microstation, Inroads, and OpenRoads desirable, but not required.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) desirable, but not required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
