Job Summary

Central Washington University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Aviation to join our team in Ellensburg, Washington. The Role:

Central Washington University is seeking a nine-month, full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach in the Professional Pilot program. The successful candidate will teach courses related to their area of expertise, advise students, contribute to the advancement of the department, engage in scholarship, and provide service to the university and the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned Master's degree, preferably in Aviation, Business, Education, Management, or Safety (with advanced flight ratings and five years aviation industry experience)
  • Logged flight hours equivalent to an FAA Part 141 Assistant Chief Instructor
  • Demonstrated success in teaching at the college or university level
  • Willingness to teach a wide range of courses at all levels and through various modalities
  • Research, teaching, service, or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU's commitment to the engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse students
  • Experience working effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the university philosophy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • University-level teaching experience
  • Experience in flight program curriculum development and improvement
  • Scholarship/creative activities interests
  • Service interests
  • Earned Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) preferably in Aviation, Business, Education, Management, or Safety
  • Collegiate Aviation teaching experience
  • Experience working with a diverse student population
  • Experience or interest in developing and teaching online courses
  • Experience in curriculum development and improvement
  • Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote inclusion
  • A record of promoting inclusivity in classrooms and academic work environments
  • Experience or interest in mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into curriculum and classroom conversations
  • Research program that reflects the needs of minority or underserved populations
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students through teaching and/or mentoring activities
  • Demonstrated training in and/or experience in implementing anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion-related materials or pedagogical practices in credit-bearing courses, certificate programs, or professional development type trainings, workshops, or seminars
