Loan Servicing Clerk Job Description

Skowhegan Savings Bank is seeking a highly skilled Loan Servicing Clerk to join our Loan Servicing Team. This is a full-time, onsite position based out of our Operations Center in Skowhegan.

Job Summary:

The Loan Servicing Clerk is responsible for specialized servicing tasks, including loading loans into the bank's core system, processing payments, disbursements, changes, and other loan function transactions related to the setup and maintenance of the bank's loan portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Loading, setting up, and cross-checking new loans into the bank's core system, including mortgages, home equity loans, home equity lines of credit, installment direct loans, and installment secured loans.
  • Collateral tracking for all loan types, including UCC filings, continuations, and terminations, incoming attorney packages from loan closings, mortgages, assignments of rents or leases, vehicle titles, and final title policies.
  • Escrow administration, including escrow distributions, property tax payments to individual towns, homeowners insurance premiums, business-to-business monthly payments for insurance premiums, PMI insurance premiums, and credit life and disability monthly premiums.
  • Annual escrow analysis, including preparation, full account review for accuracy, executing live escrow analysis, processing refunds, and mailing statements to loan customers.
  • Working with the Maine State Housing Authority to sell loans, including cross-checking files, loan document scanning, uploading MSHA documents to the online portal, reviewing the portal on a regular basis for acceptance, and researching and responding to missing or incorrect documentation.
  • Flood insurance monitoring, including processing annual correspondence, insurance premiums, account maintenance, and tracking for auditors.
  • Backing up the Commercial Loan Servicing Clerk for participation loan payment processing.
  • Monitoring and maintaining all loan modifications, including preparing loan modifications for loans, sending to loan officers for customer review, ensuring accurate file maintenance on modifications, and preparing monthly loan modification reports to underwriting.
  • Converting and tracking no-offer lines of credit to the appropriate repayment terms.
  • Monitoring, reviewing, and researching E-Oscar credit disputes from all credit reporting agencies, researching loan records for payment history, accuracy of bills, and reported information.
  • Processing all incoming loan payments and loan payoffs from customers, financial institutions, attorney offices, and wires.
  • Reviewing all closed loans, preparing appropriate letters, discharges to the registry of deeds, overpayment checks, vehicle titles to be released to borrowers or other applicable parties, tracking, and record retention.
  • Reviewing, verifying, and maintaining daily rates in all systems, including FHLB, LIBOR, mortgage platform, US Treasury, and ARM rates.
  • Providing excellent customer service to external and internal customers using the Integrity Customer Service principles.
  • Handling phone calls from customers or other departments concerning loan questions.
  • Assuming additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED required.
  • Bank core system experience, Jack Henry desired.
  • 6-12 months banking/loan experience preferred and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Must be dependable, flexible, a team player, professional, and calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work with little supervision.
