Pharmacist - Part Time, Benefits Eligible - Mineola

NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island is seeking a skilled and dedicated Pharmacist to join our team in Mineola. As a Pharmacist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications for our patients.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of medication therapy, including review of inpatient medication orders and outpatient prescriptions, dispensing of medication, and counseling of patients. You will also provide guidance and mentorship to non-licensed staff performing approved medication-related tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enter medication information orders appropriately (SIGs, Start/Stop Dates, etc) from written orders, D/C discontinued medications, validate CPOE orders, and make necessary corrections to orders.
  • Screen for possible adverse drug events, document interventions, notes, and allergies properly, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Convey pertinent issues to the appropriate personnel to maintain an effective continuum of patient care and make appropriate documentation for efficient follow-up.
  • Handle controlled substances in accordance with federal, state, local regulations, and hospital policies and procedures, process wasted, returned, and expired drugs, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate patient profiles, prescription records, including patient's name, DOB, address, and date filled, initials or signature, etc.
  • Screen prescriptions for appropriateness of drug and therapy, and possible adverse event potential, dispense drug with the appropriate auxiliary labeling, and offer counseling to patients.
  • Comply with policies and procedures related to working in the sterile preparation area, proper hand-washing procedure, special handling requirements, and procedures for preparation of sterile bio-hazardous orders.
  • Participate in the training and supervision of staff, and continue to be a mentor and knowledge base for the purpose of enhancing continual staff development.
  • Ensure patient-safe, time-effective, and appropriate medication therapy, triage and review orders for appropriateness of therapy, select correct drug/dose/dosage form to be labeled, prepare accurate container label, and affix the proper auxiliary information.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy.
  • Current New York State Pharmacy License.
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written), organizational, detail-oriented, problem-solving, and record-keeping skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proficient in the use of the Pyxis system.
  • Knowledge of special handling requirements and additional policies and procedures for preparation of sterile bio-hazardous orders.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Post-Doctoral PharmD.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Licensed Pharmacist in a healthcare or retail environment.
