Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Intervention Special Education Teacher to join our team at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. As a key member of our Preschool Early Intervention department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality special education services to young children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and deliver special education services to preschool-age children in early intervention classrooms.
  • Select, administer, and interpret standardized assessment tools to accurately identify children's needs and report assessment information clearly and accurately.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on evaluation results and children's needs.
  • Provide instruction to individuals, small groups, and large groups, including typically developing peers.
  • Plan lessons that embed specially designed instruction and connect to children's IEP goals.
  • Evaluate and monitor children's progress based on assessments, data collection, and input from related service providers.
  • Collaborate with personnel and consultants to implement specially designed instruction and meet children's goals.
  • Effectively communicate with parents and outside professionals to support the implementation of specially designed instruction.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of early childhood curriculum and make adaptations and modifications to meet individual needs.
  • Accommodate families and provide guidance to paraprofessionals related to duties within the classroom.
  • Coordinate the transition process for children preparing to enter kindergarten programs.
Requirements
  • Valid PA certification in Special Education PK-8/PK-12 required.
  • Valid PA certification in Early Childhood PK-4 preferred.
  • Experience working with preschool populations in early childhood environments preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust and positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues.
  • Excellent collaboration and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Self-motivation, independence, cooperation, flexibility, creativity, and responsibility.
  • Ability to travel throughout the County required.
  • Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy.
Additional Requirements
  • Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151, and NSOR clearances are required prior to an offer.
  • School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
Working Conditions
  • Sitting for extended periods.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 35 pounds.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, bend, and reach to retrieve and handle teaching materials and supplies.
