Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Meat/Seafood Butcher to join our team at Big Y. As a key member of our retail team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service and ensuring that our meat and seafood products meet the highest standards of quality and freshness.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Customer Service and Product Preparation: Prepare and present high-quality meat and seafood products to meet customer expectations, while providing a pleasant and rewarding shopping experience.
  2. Team Collaboration and Representation: Work collaboratively with fellow Big Y employees to deliver an exceptional customer experience and represent the company in a professional and courteous manner.
  3. Meat and Seafood Processing: Receive, process, cut, trim, scrape, package, tie, wrap, weigh, price, and label meat products, as well as maintain supplies and identify all cuts of meat and seafood.
  4. Special Requests and Training: Process special customer requests, including special cuts of meats and seafood, and provide training as needed through product knowledge and expertise.
  5. Inventory Management and Equipment Maintenance: Maintain inventory and order adequate product, as well as operate, clean, and maintain equipment/machinery, tools, and workstations.
  6. Continuous Improvement and Workflow Oversight: Engage in and encourage continuous improvement through ideas and innovation, and periodically oversee and direct workflow as assigned.
Requirements
  1. Previous Experience and Skills: Previous perishable foods handling and/or preparation experience preferred, with ability to represent A Culture of Caring and The Pursuit of Excellence through the support of Big Y's Mission & Vision.
  2. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to demonstrate a passion for food through interactive sales techniques, project a clean and professional appearance, and possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  3. Flexibility and Adaptability: Ability to work a flexible schedule in accordance with the needs of the store, and operate within company policies, procedures, and standards.
  4. Age and Education: Must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
