About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse First Assistant to join our Surgical Services team at SSM Health. As an RNFA, you will play a critical role in providing direct assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Position patients to provide optimal exposure for surgical procedures, utilizing stabilizing equipment as needed to maximize patient comfort and safety.
  • Implement physicians' orders to provide visualization of the operative site, using appropriate methods, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
  • Utilize appropriate techniques to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
  • Assist with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
  • Apply evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in healthcare to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient-specific needs and clinical requirements.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner, performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Completion of an RNFA program that meets AORN standards for RN first assistant education programs.
  • Two years' registered nurse experience in an advanced surgical specialty or an APRN with completed RNFA program.
