About the Role

The University of Illinois is seeking a skilled Nursing Technician to join our team in the 6E Neuro Stepdown unit. As a Nursing Technician, you will play a vital role in delivering patient care and supporting the nursing team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with patient admission, transfer, or discharge, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Provide basic patient care, including activities of daily living, and operate patient care equipment safely and effectively.
  • Document patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), including vital signs, nursing care provided, and intake and output.
  • Act as a patient and family advocate, providing comfort, assistance, and information, and providing feedback to the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse as directed.
  • Participate in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities, supporting department and unit goals in daily behavior.
  • Identify recurring clinical practice and unit problems, and participate in problem-solving and resolution.
  • Collaborate with other staff to identify, promote, and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.
  • Take responsibility for continued professional growth and development, identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet those needs.
Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Possession of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license from an accredited institution or program.
  • Registered and active in the Illinois Department of Public Health - Health Care Worker Registry.
  • AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit-specific certifications.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and healthcare providers.
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history required.
