Recreational Therapy Aide

This position is responsible for assisting in the organization, promotion, and implementation of recreational therapy programs under the direction of the Recreation Director in a long-term care facility. The incumbent will lead and direct residents in recreational activities as part of a therapeutic medical/psychotherapeutic treatment program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily assessments of residents' level of participation in recreational programs.
- Document observations and progress towards established therapeutic goals.
- Lead and direct residents in recreational activities.
- Assist in the organization and promotion of recreational therapy programs.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- American Heart Association BLS/CPR Certification.
- Valid driver's license.
- Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico.
- Safe Food Handling Certificate.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a long-term facility with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
- Walking throughout the facility and frequent communication and interaction with residents, staff, and the public.
- Periods of walking, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, and stretching for a variety of activities may be required.
Supplemental Information:
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
