Responsible for overseeing teams engaged in road construction activities, including asphalt, bridge work, and general maintenance. Operates specialized heavy machinery and ensures safe working conditions through effective traffic control measures. May provide assistance during emergency situations and is committed to upholding all safety regulations, including the use of appropriate safety gear.
Key Responsibilities
Leads, trains, and supports team members in road construction tasks. Monitors crew performance to ensure adherence to specifications and quality benchmarks. Organizes, assigns, and coordinates workflow to optimize productivity. Evaluates both qualitative and quantitative outcomes.
Operates a variety of specialized construction machinery, including:
- Milling machines
- Excavators
- Rollers
- Cranes
- Trenchers
- Backhoes
These machines are utilized for tasks such as breaking ground, moving dirt and rock, spreading materials, loading trucks, excavating trenches, resurfacing streets, and performing various other construction activities.
Coordination and Maintenance
Plans and coordinates job tasks and traffic control to guarantee timely and effective service delivery. Assists in maintaining an inventory of supplies and materials necessary for operations.
Conducts minor repairs and adjustments to equipment in the field and provides regular reports on the condition of machinery for preventive maintenance purposes. May also assist with the repair and upkeep of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems. Proposes and implements procedural improvements as necessary. Performs additional duties as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in operating heavy machinery, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory role as an Equipment Operator III or IV.
Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Texas Driver's License and a clean driving record is mandatory. Candidates must provide a 10-year driving history.
Must maintain a good driving record and comply with local regulations regarding vehicle operation.
Successful candidates will undergo mandatory drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout their employment.
Ability to interpret plans, set grades, and finish road sections is essential. Strong supervisory skills are required.
Physical demands include prolonged periods of kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing, and the capability to lift and carry over 100 lbs. with assistance.
Must be able to work in diverse environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, ice, and snow. Proficiency in safe and efficient equipment operation is necessary.
