PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
To deliver specialized educational experiences for students with unique learning requirements, facilitating their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development. Tailor or adapt curricula and prepare instructional materials to meet diverse student capabilities. Engage in various educational settings, including general education, self-contained classrooms, team teaching, or itinerant roles as designated.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification/License:
Certified in Texas across multiple content areas preferred.
Hold a Texas Special Education Teacher Certification.
Possess a Texas ESL Supplemental Certification.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution is mandatory.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
Familiarity with the Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal-setting process and its execution.
Understanding of the special education process, including the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee procedures.
General knowledge of curriculum and instructional methodologies.
Capability to work with children exhibiting a range of disabilities.
Proficiency in data comprehension and utilization.
A growth-oriented mindset.
Effective communication abilities.
EXPERIENCE:
Completion of student teaching or an approved internship is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning:
• Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to formulate an IEP through the ARD Committee process for each assigned student.
• Assess student needs related to the curriculum and utilize results to design instructional activities.
• Regularly participate in ARD/IEP Committee meetings.
• Plan and implement suitable instructional strategies, activities, materials, and resources that reflect an understanding of the diverse learning styles and needs of assigned students.
• Develop and execute an instructional, therapeutic, or skill enhancement program for assigned students, providing written evidence of preparation as required.
• Collaborate with classroom educators to ensure necessary accommodations and modifications to the general education curriculum and activities, ensuring full access for eligible students.
• Design and implement strategies to foster students' self-advocacy skills.
Learning Environment:
• Create learning environments that promote educational engagement and cater to the physical, social, and emotional growth of students.
• Ensure a safe and supportive learning atmosphere.
• Consult with classroom educators regarding behavior management strategies, including positive behavioral supports aligned with the IEP.
• Manage student behavior in accordance with established guidelines and Individual Education Plans.
• Intervene in crisis situations using de-escalation techniques and, if necessary, physical management to resolve the crisis.
• Take all necessary precautions to safeguard educational materials and facilities.
• Assist in selecting appropriate instructional materials and resources.
• Collaborate with other educators to provide individualized instruction for special populations, adhering to district, state, and federal regulations.
• Support students in their educational, personal, and social development.
• Respect the diverse cultures, backgrounds, and values of students and their families.
• Engage in a professional learning community to promote the success of all students.
• Collaborate with the campus Problem Solving Team (PST) to develop intervention strategies for students.
• Design and implement accommodations/modifications to enable students served through special education to participate in extracurricular activities.
Instruction:
• Ensure that students in special education have access to the full grade-level curriculum.
• Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the ARD/IEP.
• Work with general educators to design effective accommodations and modifications that ensure student access to grade-level instruction.
• Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and media to address the needs and capabilities of each assigned student.
• Employ digital tools for instruction, assessment, and evidence of learning.
• Collect and analyze ongoing data/assessments of student achievement to make informed decisions that promote student progress.
• Provide or supervise personal care, medical assistance, and feeding of students as specified in the ARD/IEP.
• Maintain documentation of instruction and student progress, reporting in accordance with district protocols.
• Administer statewide assessments following established procedures.
Communication:
• Consult with district and community resources regarding the educational, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
• Establish and maintain open lines of communication through conferences with parents, students, administrators, and educators.
• Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
• Utilize effective communication skills to convey information accurately and clearly.
• Complete and distribute Progress Reports on IEP goals to parents as outlined in the ARD/IEP.
• Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the district.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding personally identifiable information of students and their families.
Professional Development:
• Set professional goals and actively seek out professional learning opportunities to enhance job-related skills.
• Collaborate with colleagues.
• Exhibit emotional maturity and a positive demeanor in interactions with students, parents, staff, and the community.

• Attend and participate in campus meetings and serve on committees as required.
• Engage in staff development activities to enhance job-related skills.
• Act as case manager for assigned students eligible for special education, providing professional development and consultation as needed with other team members to meet each student's IEP recommendations.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Plan and oversee assignments for special education Teaching Assistants and volunteers.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Engage in frequent problem-solving with instructional team members. Involve frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. May require lifting and positioning students with physical disabilities; managing behavior through physical restraint; and assisting non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.
Equipment Utilized:
Personal computer; Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); printer, copier, fax machine; Google Apps; and specialized equipment for student communication and physical needs.
