Building Services Worker

Job Summary

This role is responsible for performing preventive maintenance activities on a variety of equipment and systems at Indiana University Bloomington. The successful candidate will have a strong background in building maintenance and repair, as well as experience with chemical water treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on HVAC systems, electrical equipment, and other building systems to ensure optimal performance and extend equipment life.
  • Conduct inspections and tests to identify potential issues and perform repairs as needed.
  • Change filters, belts, and other consumable items as scheduled.
  • Clean and lubricate machinery and equipment to prevent wear and tear.
  • Test emergency generators and inspect components for abnormal wear.
  • Diagnose and remedy heating and cooling problems and malfunctions.
  • Perform water treatments and collect and test water samples to ensure proper chemical levels.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities.
  • Perform other general building maintenance tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of experience in building maintenance and repair or chemical water treatment required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Certification in a related field, such as HVAC or water treatment.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems.

Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to lift up to 50 pounds. The successful candidate will be required to work at heights and in confined spaces.
