Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly); Part-time, 20 hrs./wk., 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Adult Day Services Program Director, the Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring meal service for clients and staff is conducted in a clean and safe environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Receive and properly store food supplies and kitchen equipment.
  2. Maintain cleanliness and operational efficiency of kitchen equipment, appliances, and work areas by adhering to a weekly cleaning checklist.
  3. Rotate stock in the pantry to ensure freshness.
  4. Manage the cleaning of all dishes post-meal service.
  5. Ensure the dining area is cleaned after each scheduled mealtime.
  6. Learn meal preparation techniques to assist in the absence of the primary cook, including portion control and accommodating special dietary needs.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent required.

CERTIFICATION: A valid food handlers permit is required.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year in quantity food preparation and kitchen management is preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to work independently while meeting the standards of KSBE/CACFP; proficiency in operating commercial kitchen equipment and supervising kitchen aides in food preparation and sanitation. Basic computer skills are necessary, with familiarity in Microsoft Windows and related applications.

COMMUNICATION: Regular interaction with program staff and participants is essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Controlled indoor setting with potential noise from commercial kitchen equipment. Regular handling of manual and mechanical tools, as well as cooking and baking equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate physical activity is required, including the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently. Frequent mobility and flexibility are necessary for various tasks.

VISION AND HEARING: Adequate vision and hearing capabilities are necessary to perform job responsibilities effectively.

COORDINATION: Frequent operation of equipment and tasks requiring moderate manual dexterity.
