Position Overview:
As a Certified Medication Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting residents with their daily medication routines.
Essential Qualifications for Medication Technician:
- Completion of High School or equivalent educational attainment.
- Prior experience in Healthcare, Geriatrics, Caregiving, or working with senior populations is advantageous.
- Capability to adapt to various personalities and circumstances.
- Understanding of dementia-related challenges is essential.
- Acknowledgment that mistakes can have significant repercussions for residents.
- Exhibiting patience, tact, a positive demeanor, and enthusiasm while assisting residents according to their cognitive abilities.
- Minimum age requirement of 18 years.
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid is mandatory.
- Possession of CMA certification is required.
- Must have a TB clearance.
Key Responsibilities for Medication Technician:
- Prepare and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Confirm the identity of residents prior to medication administration.
- Comply with hand hygiene protocols during medication distribution, along with universal precautions and infection control measures.
- Order medications, supplies, and equipment as needed, following established guidelines.
- Remove outdated or discontinued medications from carts and resident living spaces as necessary.
- Ensure accuracy in medication records for your shift and maintain accountability for keys.
- Review medication documentation for thoroughness and correctness.
- Report any discrepancies related to physician orders, medication counts, or unusual occurrences to your supervisor.
- Complete documentation tasks as required in line with community policies and procedures.
- Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge processes of residents as needed.
- Examine charts for specific treatment, medication, and dietary orders as required.
- Notify the supervising nurse of any changes in resident conditions, including refusals of medication or treatment.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in work areas, including medication carts and nursing stations.
- Consistently demonstrate courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude towards residents, their families, visitors, and colleagues.
- Document any accidents or incidents observed during your shift and report suspected abuse immediately.
- Record significant events in the 24-hour report.
- Assist residents with daily living activities.
- Encourage the social engagement of each resident.
- Support light housekeeping tasks, such as emptying trash and changing linens.
- Accompany residents to and from dining areas for meals and assist with dining-related tasks as necessary.
- Perform any duties assigned by supervisors to uphold the dignity, self-respect, and safety of each resident while adhering to the standards of Residents' Rights and all applicable regulations.
General Working Conditions:
This role requires prolonged periods of standing. While fulfilling job responsibilities, employees must effectively communicate with others, sit, stand, walk, and utilize hands for various tasks. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking fluent English is essential. Employees may occasionally need to reach, push, or pull equipment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines are expected. Compassion and empathy are crucial attributes. Employees may occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds and may frequently bend, reach, grasp, or climb. The work environment necessitates appropriate interactions with others, and the noise level is moderate. Occasional travel to different locations may be required.
