Job Summary:

The Respiratory Care Practitioner I is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care to patients. This role requires a strong foundation in respiratory therapy, with a focus on patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform all respiratory care procedures, including oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services, and patient and staff education.
  • Monitor patient response to therapies and make recommendations for changes or modifications based on assessment.
  • Assess patient physical status through inspection, palpation, auscultation, percussion, patient behavior, and reviewing existing data in patient records.
  • Perform treatments according to physician orders, explain therapy and therapeutic goals to patients, and modify treatment procedures based on patient response.
  • Determine appropriateness of prescribed therapy and recommend methods to physicians to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • Set up and maintain different modes of oxygen therapy to maintain adequate PaO2 levels with accurate inspired levels of oxygen.
  • Administer intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) or Aerosol Therapy, preparing prescribed medications and adjusting machines or devices to accomplish individual clinical needs.
  • Document and observe patient vital signs, productivity of cough, relief of Dyspnea, improved breath sounds, and any adverse reactions to therapy.
  • Use judgment and technical skill to determine possible adverse reactions and suggestions for appropriateness of therapy.
  • Instruct patients and families in incentive spirometer, metered dose inhaler (MDI) administration, postural drainage and clapping, oxygen therapy, ventilator care, and home aerosol therapy.
  • May assist doctors with bronchoscopy and tracheostomy, assist with tracheostomy endotracheal tube changes, and ensure proper humidification.
  • Procure sputum for culture and sensitivity or airway clearance through patient coaching, administration of mucolytics, aerosol therapy, or endotracheal/nasopharyngeal suctioning.
  • Evaluate normal and pathologic blood and urine laboratory value ranges.
  • Perform arterial punctures and analysis, with in-depth knowledge of analysis and arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation.
  • Perform EKGs, understand electronic monitoring, lead placement, and basic arrhythmias.
  • Maintain all Respiratory Therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Respond to cardio-pulmonary resuscitations and actively participate as indicated by clinical circumstances.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved school for Respiratory Care (required)
  • Bachelor's Degree, Related to Respiratory Therapy/Healthcare/Healthcare Admin/Business Admin (preferred)
  • Current Respiratory Care License in the state they are working (required)
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed (required)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (preferred)
  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required)
  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross (preferred)
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (preferred)
  • Previous working experience in an ambulatory or acute care setting (preferred)
  • 6 months Respiratory Therapy experience in a general care area (preferred)

Training:
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred)
