We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electronics Technician to join our team at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. As a key member of our Biology Service Facility, you will be responsible for providing technical support, maintenance, and repair of complex research, medical, and teaching instrumentation.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support and repair for complex research, medical, and teaching instrumentation, including microscopy, chromatography, spectroscopy, and other specialized equipment.
  • Design and build unique electronic prototypes for various teaching and research fields, providing recommendations and guidance to PIs on the best approaches to achieve research needs and goals.
  • Maintain and calibrate complex microscopy equipment, analytical balances, and remote monitoring sensors to ensure accuracy and precision.
  • Collaborate with OEM technicians to troubleshoot complex technical issues and coordinate third-party warranty repairs or service.
  • Develop departmental processes related to component repair and determine when repairs should be referred to this position based on complexity.
Requirements:
  • Associate's Degree in a related field and three years of work experience in electronic and instrumentation repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent understanding of Electrical and Electronics theory to the component level, with ability to quickly digest research needs and provide excellent problem-solving skills on unfamiliar equipment.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and ability to evaluate and make cost-effective decisions regarding organizational labor rate, material costs, and availability, and equipment downtime.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Working knowledge of Lab View software and understanding of SQL and ability to build analytical reports.
