About the Role
This role is situated within a correctional facility.
The Food Service Director is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all activities related to the operation of a single-site food service establishment within a facility that houses fewer than 1,000 inmates.
This position encompasses both operational and financial oversight of the kitchen, supervising an Assistant Food Service Director and/or a team of Food Service Workers and/or Cooks engaged in food preparation, serving, and cleanup in a secure environment.

Core Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of subordinate staff and delegate specific tasks.
- Facilitate orientation and training for new employees.
- Execute daily assignments alongside supervisory duties.
- Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards across all operations.
- Plan, assign, and evaluate the work of Food Service Staff.
Maintain a clean work environment and adhere to all local regulations regarding food storage, handling, and service.
- Assist in meal preparation as needed.- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Stay informed about local, state, and federal regulations, as well as the inspection process.
- This position involves physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods.
- Be prepared to remain on your feet for much of the scheduled shift.
- Undertake other related responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of management or supervisory experience in a food service setting.
- ServSafe Certification required.
- Knowledge and experience in managing kitchen sanitation and safety standards.
- Basic accounting and mathematical skills for report completion.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent; candidates must be at least 18 years old.
- Previous experience in institutional food service or restaurant settings is preferred.
