MedStar Health is seeking a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in transverse and cross-sectional anatomical and pathological presentations, as well as technical operations associated with ultrasound modalities.

The Ultrasound Technologist, under general supervision, performs ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols, as requested by referring physicians and as directed by radiologists. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts ultrasound examinations in department or at bedside, including chest, abdomen, pelvis, small parts, carotids, neonatal heads, OB/GYN, trans-vaginal, and prostate, in accordance with prescribed protocols and utilizing identified scanner.
  • Reports initial impressions to the Radiologist and reviews images before releasing the patient, ensuring timely completion of all exams through tracking, scanning, and other technical workflow.
  • Provides basic information to patients and/or families concerning procedures to be performed and answers questions if asked, coordinating patient flow on assigned unit to maximize productivity.
  • Prepares exam rooms at the beginning of each shift and between assigned cases, coordinates and collaborates with Technical Aides to ensure efficient room turnover.
  • Assists with the upkeep of ultrasound equipment, adheres to all related safety requirements, and reports any need for equipment repairs, cleaning equipment and work area, and stocking and maintaining supplies at identified inventory levels.
  • Assists the technical supervisor in the revision, development, and implementation of lab policies, in-service programs, and continuing educational programs that enhance the individual technologist's performance and skills.

Requirements:

  • Must have completed training in an approved Ultrasound program.
  • As part of their education, candidates must also demonstrate competency in didactic coursework and an ARRT-specified list of clinical procedures by completing competency requirements established for the discipline in which they are seeking certification and registration.
  • ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) certification.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • 1-2 years of hospital-based experience preferred.
  • Skills in operating various models of ultrasound and instructing others in proper use preferred.
