This role involves collaboration with the Mechanical Integrity team, Reliability Engineers, plant personnel, and the capital projects team to enhance fixed equipment analysis, repairs, and upgrades.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer engineering assistance for fixed equipment operations across the organization.
  • Collaborate closely with the Mechanical Integrity team to evaluate inspection results, formulate repair strategies, and identify root causes to prevent recurring failures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant industry standards to ensure facilities comply with regulations. Update internal standards and policies as necessary to ensure adherence.
  • Provide engineering support to facilities to address gaps in Pressure System Integrity (PSI) information and management systems. This includes performing engineering calculations or coordinating with other technical resources to secure necessary PSI documentation.
  • Conduct calculations for Pressure Safety Analysis (PSA) vessel fatigue cracking inspections, reformer tube creep assessments, and torque specifications for specialty flanges.
  • Facilitate fixed equipment enhancements by overseeing small capital projects and/or offering technical guidance to Project Managers.
  • Examine Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) test reports and suggest interval modifications based on findings.
  • Assist during fixed equipment Mechanical Integrity inspections and the execution of corrective actions as required.
  • Identify chronic issues with fixed equipment and develop strategies for resolution.
  • Lead or support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) initiatives for fixed equipment failures.

Qualifications:

This position entails a mix of office and fieldwork, typically requiring approximately 25% domestic travel.

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, along with over 10 years of experience as a fixed equipment technical resource in a Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated environment.
  • Certifications such as API 510 and 570 are advantageous.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be a self-motivated individual capable of working independently as well as leading and participating in cross-functional teams.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, drive issues to resolution, and achieve results.
  • Comprehend the multi-disciplinary aspects of corrosion and materials selection.
  • Familiarity with various engineering materials (metals and non-metals).
  • Experience with common Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technologies and applications.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel (Section VIII), Piping Codes (B31.3), API 510, API 570, API 653, and others.
  • Experience with industrial metallurgical coating systems and corrosion mitigation strategies, including cathodic protection and insulation.
  • Experience with reformer and refractory-lined equipment is a plus.
  • Experience in or supporting OSHA PSM-regulated facilities or processes, with an understanding of how mechanical integrity program elements apply to fixed equipment.
