The Fleet Operations Supervisor is an integral part of the Day & Ross Operations Team. This position is essential for ensuring the safe and timely delivery of goods to our diverse clientele while optimizing the efficiency and profitability of a designated fleet of drivers and vehicles. Fleet Operations Supervisors are tasked with fostering a positive work environment for drivers and implementing effective driver management strategies to enhance retention. Additionally, they ensure compliance with DOT regulations, as well as adherence to company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Facilitate driver success through relationship development, clear communication, positive reinforcement, and prompt resolution of performance and personal issues.
- Provide comprehensive load details, including routing and directions, to prepare drivers for their assignments.
- Guide and coach drivers on time management, including departure schedules and driving time to ensure timely deliveries and compliance with hours of service.
- Assist drivers with on-board ELD systems and ensure adherence to HOS regulations.
- Oversee all communications via the on-board ELD messaging system.
- Maintain accurate and thorough records within the TMS System for drivers, trips, and customers.
- Respond to inquiries from both drivers and customers through phone and electronic communication.
- Monitor TMS System software for accurate trip information and workflow.
- Adhere to established processes, procedures, and protocols.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company guidelines.
- Understand the driver compensation structure.
- Process driver time-off requests in accordance with company policy.
- Document discussions or issues regarding driver performance.
- Negotiate and coordinate the transportation of goods.
- Utilize various tools within the ELD and TMS systems as per company procedures.
- Monitor critical loads and determine when recovery plans are necessary, executing these plans to ensure timely delivery or meet other objectives.
- Collaborate with the Driver Management Team to arrange weekend dispatch coverage on a rotating basis as required.
- High school diploma or GED required; logistics experience preferred.
- 4-Year college degree preferred.
- Required knowledge and experience in transportation.
- Previous supervisory, transportation, and/or operational experience is essential.
- Experience leading a team of front-line employees and supervisors remotely.
- Preferred expertise in TMS System software.
- Familiarity with PeopleNet or Qualcomm systems.
- Experience in developing and maintaining operational budgets.
- Strong leadership, influencing, and follow-up skills are a must.
- Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations is essential.
- Proficient in MS Office applications; working knowledge of SAP small business is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer relationship management and exceptional customer service skills.
- Strong conflict resolution abilities.
- Able to meet deadlines in a high-volume transactional environment.
- Minimal travel required for training or as needed.
