Job Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays a vital role in providing patient care and assisting licensed nursing personnel. Under the supervision of an assigned Registered Nurse (RN), CNAs perform various tasks to meet the needs of patients and the unit.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assist patients with personal care, including bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Provide vital sign monitoring, including temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure.
  • Participate in hourly rounds to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Utilize equipment such as lift equipment, bed rails, and restraints to promote patient mobility and safety.
  • Document patient data and duties performed according to hospital policy.
Communication Skills:
  • Demonstrate respect for patients, property, and coworkers through verbal and nonverbal communication.
  • Notify RN of patient need for modification devices or recognized abnormalities in signs and symptoms.
Vital Sign Monitoring:
  • Temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure monitoring.
  • Nutritional needs, including meal preparation and feeding techniques.
Data Collection:
  • Collect and record vital signs, output from drainage devices, and closed drainage systems.
  • Documentation of patient data and duties performed according to hospital policy.
