Unit Details:
Department: MedSurg | RN
- Unit: MedSurg - 6th Floor
- Bed Capacity: 42
- Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:5, with occasional 1:6
- Required Certifications: BLS
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Primarily medical cases with some surgical overflow, including respiratory and gastrointestinal conditions, as well as behavioral health cases.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of MedSurg experience required.
- Proficiency in EPIC is essential.
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry is necessary.
- Willingness to mentor new travelers and students is preferred.
Additional Information:
- Charge Nurse available on each shift, typically not assigned patients unless necessary.
- Support staff includes nurse aides/patient care technicians at a ratio of 1:8.
- Equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP, managed by respiratory therapy.
- Virtual telemetry technicians assist with monitoring, but RNs must interpret their own telemetry strips.
Scheduling & Orientation:
- 12-hour shifts with no block scheduling.
- Weekend requirement: 5 weekend shifts within a 6-week period.
- Holiday shifts may be required based on needs.
- Orientation includes 3 days of general training, EPIC training, and 2 shifts with a preceptor.
Dress Code:
- Scrubs of any color are acceptable as long as they are clean and professional.
