Under the supervision of the Supervisor, the Equipment Mechanic is tasked with the repair, refurbishment, and maintenance of gas and electric golf carts as well as diesel, gas, propane, and electric lift truck machinery, adhering to the guidelines and specifications provided by equipment manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Dismantles and installs protective guards, tracks, roller frames, cabs, masts, forks, and other external components.
2. Removes and replaces engines, transmissions, steering clutches, drive axles, and other significant parts.
3. Cleans components using petroleum-based solvents or similar cleaning techniques.
4. Assembles and disassembles parts as directed and conducts limited diagnostic assessments.
5. Assesses worn and used components; if necessary, procures new and refurbished parts from parts catalogs, shop personnel, or external suppliers.
6. Operates and tests machinery post-repair and makes minor adjustments as needed.
7. Completes necessary service reports to document parts usage, labor costs, and repair methods.
8. Maintains and services the company’s material handling equipment.
9. Keeps service records for all company material handling equipment.
10. Repairs and troubleshoots electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems typically associated with material handling equipment.
11. Maintains and services construction vehicles and equipment, including those with propane, diesel, and gas engines.
12. Maintains and services battery-operated vehicles and equipment, including their chargers and charging systems.
13. Performs general housekeeping tasks such as cleaning floors, painting shelves, racks, and aisle markers.
14. Utilizes the CMMS system to log all completed tasks.
15. Ensures adherence to all safety protocols, practices, and regulations to promote a positive safety culture with a safety-first mindset during all activities.
16. Undertakes additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in maintaining electric, gas, and diesel forklifts, golf carts, aerial lifts, and skid steers.
- Forklift certification or the ability to obtain it.
- Knowledge of battery-operated vehicles, including their chargers and charging systems.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and urgency.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Works well with minimal supervision while relying on established guidelines.
- Proficient in the use of tools and understanding their functions.
- Familiarity with safety requirements for equipment and tools.
- Basic computer skills.
- Proven ability to support a positive safety culture.
- Capable of performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Over 4 years of experience in maintaining industrial equipment.
- Completion of a 2-year vocational education program or equivalent knowledge is preferred.
