Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Dental Assistant to join our team at the College of Dentistry's Clinic Administration. As a Dental Assistant, you will work alongside dentists, dental students, and hygienists to provide top-notch care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and organize the dental operatory area, ensuring a safe and sterile environment for patient treatment.
  • Prepare patient delivery pre-set trays with the necessary instruments and materials for scheduled procedures.
  • Sort, prepare, and disinfect instruments according to established protocols.
  • Order and stock supplies in designated areas, maintaining a well-stocked and organized environment.
  • Provide exceptional patient care, including greeting, seating, and preparing patients for treatment.
  • Expose, process, and mount radiographs of patients, ensuring accurate and high-quality images.
  • Load cartridges and needles for local anesthetic administration, and pass instruments to practitioners as needed.
  • Anticipate and recognize patient needs, providing emotional support and reassurance when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, faculty, students, and patients, maintaining a positive and constructive work environment.
  • Exhibit a strong understanding of the program's philosophy and maintain professional behavior at all times.
  • Assist in other areas, utilizing a full range of dental assisting skills and lab duties as needed.
  • Enter completed charges, appointment requests, and interact with the electronic patient health record (axiUm).

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a CODA-accredited dental assistance program or one year of full-time chairside assistant experience.
  • Current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners (QDA).
  • Current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography (QDA).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working with a general dentist.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Experience working with electronic health records.
