DRMP is seeking highly skilled Transportation Technicians/CEI Inspectors to join our team in the Roanoke area. As a key member of our Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) Division, you will be responsible for performing complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, making and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests.
Key Responsibilities- Contract Compliance Inspection: Provide on-site contract compliance inspection for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects, schedule/budget monitoring, and quality assurance for projects.
- Communication and Collaboration: Communicate with project managers daily and ensure effective communication with supervisors, DOT, and contractors.
- Construction Monitoring: Ensure construction is completed according to the contract specifications, including monitoring each phase of work.
- Tool Proficiency: Use tools of the trades assigned with knowledge of materials and methods used in specific projects.
- Progress Reporting: Obtain measurements and report progress information, including daily diaries.
- On-Site Testing: Perform on-site testing as needed, including soils, aggregate, concrete, asphalt, etc.
- Inspection Requirements: Understand the inspection requirements per the project/construction method.
- Company Vehicle Operation: Drive a company vehicle to and from, as well as on client projects.
- Issue Identification and Reporting: Identify potential issues and report them to the contractor and project engineer.
- Progress Reporting: Provide progress reports to project engineers and supervisors.
- Quality System Tasks: Perform specific quality system tasks as defined in the quality manual.
- Stormwater Management and Erosion Controls: Check stormwater management practices and erosion/sediment controls to ensure compliance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and other orders and to all company policies, procedures, and directives from supervisors.
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.
- Education and Experience: High school graduate with transportation construction training/experience in bridge and/or roadway construction, or coursework in civil engineering, project management, or materials.
- OSHA Certification: OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Mathematical Knowledge: Working knowledge of basic mathematics, including linear and cubic measurements, and computations related to algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Computer Proficiency: Computer knowledge with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and utilize these skills to resolve issues in the field or communicate with co-workers, clients, etc.
- Tool Proficiency: Must be able to use tools of the trades assigned with knowledge of materials and methods used in specific projects.
- Certifications: Certification(s) from at least one or more of the following: Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) or Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VADEQ) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Independent Work: Must be able to follow and carry out specific instructions on an independent basis.
- Safety Protocol: Must be able to interpret and implement company-mandated safety policies.
- Construction Surveying: Must understand construction surveying procedures and principles.
- Safety: Apply safety protocol in all cases, including working in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites.
- Driver's License: Valid driver's license with approved/acceptable driving history required.
- Work Schedule: Position requires a minimum of 40 hours a week with the possibility of overtime (Hourly).
