Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Birth Certificate Registrar. This part-time position will be responsible for processing official paperwork related to births, including birth and death certificates, paternity acknowledgement or denial forms, and other documents associated with State vital records requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process official paperwork related to births, including birth and death certificates, paternity acknowledgement or denial forms, and other documents associated with State vital records requirements.
  • Communicate and manage information in a sensitive and efficient manner.
  • Process documents pertaining to the birth process, including obtaining daily birth census, conducting face-to-face interviews, and distributing and preparing multiple forms.
  • Ensure and obtain necessary signatures as required for all documents pertaining to births.
  • Input data into computer for State's electronic birth certificate process on a daily basis.
  • Prepare and scan entered birth certificate applications into computer daily.
  • Maintain an organized and uncluttered work area.
  • Communicate with individuals, departments, and agencies, including conducting personal interviews with parent(s), interacting with spouses, significant others, and families during sensitive and crisis situations, and arranging for an interpreter if necessary.
  • Effectively communicate with necessary parties to resolve issues as they arise and represent the department at meetings on matters relating to vital statistics.
  • Promote, have knowledge of, and utilize appropriate patient care protocol relating to the physical, psychosocial, and developmental needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Assist with the orientation of new employees.
  • Assess own need for personal/professional growth and development, attend educational programs to enhance job performance, and promote the growth and development of others by participating in unit orientation/recruitment of new employees.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required.
  • Some college course preparation preferred.
  • Good knowledge of computer keyboard and on-line electronic information systems, accurate typing skill at 35 wpm or better, Microsoft Office, internet, and basic medical terminology.
  • Skill in maintaining records and files.
  • Effectively communicate with medical professionals, peers, and families.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidential, sensitive information.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and schedule work to meet deadlines.
Work Environment

This part-time position will be working approximately 24 hours per week, with a typical schedule of 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday through Friday, with every other weekend required. The position will be based at the DCAM campus.
