Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Adjunct English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor to join our part-time faculty pool at Kern Community College District. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching ESL courses to adult students, developing curriculum, and participating in departmental and college-wide activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach ESL courses to adult students, including face-to-face and online classes
  • Develop and revise curriculum to meet the needs of adult learners
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide activities, including recruitment and articulation efforts
  • Assess student learning outcomes and maintain subject matter currency
  • Use technology to enhance teaching and learning, including computers and multimedia tools
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages
  • OR Bachelor's degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language
  • OR Bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified above; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language
  • OR Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in English as a second language
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment
  • Knowledge of technology and willingness to explore new tools to enhance teaching and learning
