Position Summary
Cumberland University, a distinguished private liberal arts institution, is in search of a dedicated and enthusiastic Graduate Assistant for Greek Life to support the operational functions of the Greek Affairs office. This role involves guiding and mentoring student staff, residents, and Greek organization leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute as a member of the senior staff within the Student Affairs division.
- Engage in departmental meetings and events, dedicating up to 20 hours weekly.
- Manage the Greek Life Calendar and Campus App Calendar for Greek-related events.
- Assist in organizing, executing, and dismantling Greek Life events, including workshops, leadership training, and fundraising activities.
- Support chaperoning duties for campus events and large-scale annual events.
- Collaborate on marketing initiatives for Greek events.
- Coordinate and supervise the Panhellenic Council and Greek Council.
- Oversee semesterly and yearly reports and awards for Greek organizations.
- Manage the Gamma Sigma Alpha Honor Society, including paperwork and recruitment invitations.
- Foster positive relationships with students.
- Enforce university policies and respond to crises and emergencies.
- Promote and embody the core values of Cumberland University.
- Participate in programming activities and meetings within the Student Affairs Division.
- Serve as an advisor for designated student groups when available.
- Report to and fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Dean of Students or Director of Student Life.
Graduate Assistants in Greek Affairs will have the chance to make a significant impact within Student Affairs, shaping their graduate assistantship experience.
Graduate Assistants may also be involved in judicial hearings, event planning for Greek Affairs, collaboration with Disability Services, advising the Student Programming Board, and participating in orientation and seminar courses.
Qualifications
- Commitment to a two-year tenure at Cumberland University.
- Experience living in a residence hall system for one or two years.
- Background in Greek Life.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Admission (or anticipated admission) into an accredited graduate program at Cumberland University, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 per semester.
- Demonstrated self-discipline and commitment to responsibilities.
- Good standing with Cumberland University and compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of teamwork, leadership, time management, planning, problem-solving, crisis management, conflict resolution, and cultural appreciation.
- Ability to maintain high academic standards while serving as a Graduate Assistant.
- Willingness to work from 08:00 to 12:00 or 13:00 to 16:30/17:00 daily and be on call for events.
- Professional demeanor in communication and actions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Three years of experience living in a residential hall system.
- Two years of experience as a Resident Assistant, student organization leader, or in a related role.
- Admission into an approved Master's program.
- Familiarity with residence hall systems or relevant educational administration experience.
