Job Summary

The STD Health Investigator provides services to assigned clients, including prevention, education, intervention, one-on-one patient counseling, partner education, and ensuring the appropriate treatment of infected individuals and their partners to control the spread of STDs and HIV. This position requires a strong understanding of disease transmission, preventative health strategies, and risk reduction techniques.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts extensive in-depth, confidential contact interviews and investigations on all persons infected with STDs to ensure patient treatment.
  • Educates and counsels patients verbally and with written material regarding risk and at-risk situations for sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Utilizes interpersonal and communication skills to develop a trusting rapport with patients for the purpose of obtaining sensitive, intimate, personal, and demographic information pertinent to STD cases.
  • Educates and motivates patients to adopt safer lifestyles and thereby controlling the spread of disease.
  • Documents and maintains confidential records related to the specialized area of STDs.
  • Acts as a resource to clients, community, and civic groups, emergency centers, hospitals, and private medical physicians.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Health Science, Health Education, or other closely related field.
  • Equivalent combination of related education and health promotion experience.
  • Valid Driver's License issued by the State of Utah.
  • Ability to pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This position requires working in an office setting, clinic setting, jail setting, and client homes. Duties may require sitting, standing, bending, and lifting. Position will require use of personal protective equipment. Must adhere to OSHA regulations. May be required to work in various environments including undesirable areas around homeless and/or drug-using clients, sex workers, motels, etc.
