Position Overview
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be tasked with conducting thorough inspections and performing necessary repairs on various types of machinery, including Ready Mix Trucks, On-Highway End Dump Trucks, Tractors, Trailers, and Heavy Construction Equipment. The role demands a commitment to safety and efficiency in all operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Diagnose malfunctions and execute repairs, rebuilds, and maintenance on equipment.
2. Operate and inspect machinery to identify defects.
3. Disassemble and reassemble equipment using hoists, hand tools, and power tools.
4. Assess parts for damage or excessive wear using precision measuring tools.
5. Replace faulty engines and subassemblies, including transmissions, electric motors, and hydraulic components.
6. Test repaired equipment to confirm operational efficiency.
7. Weld broken components and structural elements.
8. Supervise staff involved in cleaning and assisting with equipment assembly and disassembly.
9. Maintain accurate records of time and materials used.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a two-year technical certificate in heavy equipment maintenance preferred.
- Three to six months of relevant experience or equivalent training.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
Work Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check is mandatory.
- Adherence to safety protocols and procedures is essential.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently.
- Proficient in interpreting instructions in various formats.
- Familiarity with safety precautions associated with equipment operations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Physical Requirements
The role involves:
- Walking, standing, climbing, and balancing.
- Using hands to handle tools and equipment.
- Lifting and moving items weighing up to 94 lbs. unassisted.
- Working in various weather conditions and environments.
