Kamehameha Schools is seeking a skilled Technician to enhance our Transportation department by maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of vehicles, including diesel-powered buses, trucks, and standard automobiles.
All necessary tools and uniforms will be provided to our technicians.
This is a Full-time role with a Monday-Friday schedule during daytime hours. Compensation is competitive and based on qualifications, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

Job Summary
Under general supervision, you will perform maintenance, servicing, and repairs on both gas and diesel-powered school buses, trucks, and passenger vehicles. Responsibilities include comprehensive repairs and maintenance of fleet vehicles, focusing on drive train, steering, suspension, and exhaust systems. You will conduct routine maintenance tasks such as tire changes and vehicle inspections, and may also engage in bodywork and other assigned duties. A computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) will be utilized to track asset costs, including labor, parts, and outsourced repairs. All work must adhere to industry standards and manufacturer guidelines.
Essential Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repair
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues across various vehicles, with repairs conducted at the shop, on campus, or on public roadways in case of breakdowns.
- Respond to road emergencies (e.g., bus breakdowns) during your shift.
- Disassemble, overhaul, and reassemble engines, transmissions, turbos, and other vehicle components.
- Inspect and service suspension, brake, fuel, exhaust, and cooling systems as needed.
- Perform scheduled maintenance on fleet vehicles, including fluid checks and changes, and replace consumable/wear components.
- Conduct body repair work, including the removal and installation of windows, doors, and hatches.
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License Type B with Passenger (P) endorsement.
- Experience with computerized diagnostic equipment for automobiles.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment and passenger vehicle repairs (chassis, transmission, drive line, hydraulics, tires, etc.).
- Familiarity with electrical and air systems.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements (DOT, EPA, etc.).
- Ability to use a laptop computer for troubleshooting computerized engines.
- Effective communication skills via two-way radio systems.
- ASE A-Series (Automotive) Certifications (A1-A8).
- ASE T-Series (Truck) Certifications (T1-T7).
- ASE S-Series (School Bus) Certifications (S1-S7).
- Commercial Driver's License with School Bus (S) endorsement.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Capability to manage the physical demands of the job, including squatting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing stairs, and working in confined or awkward positions.
- Work is performed in an automotive shop, with duties potentially required on campus or public roadways in case of breakdowns.
- Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, based on the operational needs of the Transportation Department.
