Overview of the Job

The surgical technologist first assistant plays a crucial role in the operating room, supporting surgeons and other medical staff during invasive procedures. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Assists surgeons during operations, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Participates in room setup, pre-procedure preparations, and intra-operative positioning.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization techniques for equipment used during procedures.
  • Provides exposure in the operative field, uses instrumentation, suturing, and hemostasis in an anticipatory manner.

Requirements

  • Must be proficient in English language.
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Previous Certified Surgical Tech experience necessary.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist First Assist and current certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) required.
