Job Summary

BioMarin is seeking an experienced Associate Director, State Government Affairs to lead our state advocacy efforts in Western states. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive state government affairs strategy, representing BioMarin before state legislatures and agencies, and providing legislative direction and analysis to support the company's business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a state government affairs strategy to advance BioMarin's business objectives in Western states.
  • Represent BioMarin before state legislatures and agencies, providing legislative direction and analysis to support the company's business objectives.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to internal stakeholders on state legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Identify and analyze state legislative and regulatory trends and developments that may impact BioMarin's business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with state legislators, agency officials, and other stakeholders to advance BioMarin's interests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies to advance BioMarin's business objectives in Western states.
Requirements
  • 6-8 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid policy and operations.
  • Experience working with state legislatures and agencies.
Work Environment

The employee may frequently be required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
