About the Role

Vast is a pioneering company in the space industry, dedicated to creating a future where humans thrive in space. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Tooling, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing tools that bring our space station, Haven-1, from concept to reality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop tooling requirements in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including vehicle design, test, and integration teams.
  • Manage project schedules, critical next steps, deadlines, and outcomes.
  • Develop and implement tool improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Coordinate tooling modifications related to part, production, or other changes.
  • Work closely with engineering stakeholders and technicians to resolve production-related issues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace or automotive tooling.
  • 5+ years of experience in NX or other CAD packages.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • GD&T.
  • Work orders and assembly instructions.
  • Desire to work hands-on with technicians.
  • Sheet metal fabrication.
  • Compound curve sheet metal forming.
  • Thin Stainless Steel welding.
  • Design of pneumatic, electrical, or hydraulic motion systems.
  • Critical lifting and break overs fixtures.
  • Thin sheet weld design.
  • Integration tooling design.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones.
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
