Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Curator IV to oversee the Curatorial Department at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) Museum. As the Curator in Charge of Exhibitions, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the development of exhibitions, including curation, object selection, text production, and educational programming.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of the curatorial team, ensuring the timely and successful execution of exhibitions.
  • Develop and implement exhibition schedules, including the selection of exhibits and the coordination of logistics.
  • Independently curate exhibitions, including creating storylines, selecting objects, and conducting research.
  • Write and edit text labels, brochure text, and web text for exhibitions.
  • Manage and support assigned staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Proofread all exhibition text and ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Participate in the review of exhibition material proposed by the Video Arts Curator.
  • Plan and conduct tours, educational programs, and art appreciation opportunities for children's groups and the public.
  • Assume the lead in creating the education component for non-aviation exhibitions.
  • Give lectures and gallery talks relating to exhibitions and prepare and publish articles and catalogs concerning exhibitions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in fine arts, art history, decorative arts, design, history, library science, museum studies, natural history, science, technology, or other closely related disciplines.
  • Seven years of museum experience, including two years of responsible supervisory experience.
Working Conditions

This position requires unescorted access to the San Francisco International Airport U.S. Customs Security Area. The incumbent must be qualified for a U.S. Customs Access Seal and must submit an application for and successfully acquire and maintain the seal.

Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission are required to undergo a criminal history record check, including FBI fingerprints, and Security Threat Assessment in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening.
